Fire Alarm / Emergency Procedure

The Fire Alarm

In the event of a fire situation, a high-pitched warble will sound continuously. On sound of the continuous alarm, evacuate using the nearest exit indicated by the green fire safety signs. No one should stop to collect personal belongings. Do not use the lifts.

Fire Exits

Indicated prominently in all rooms and corridors. You should familiarise yourself with those exits.

The fire alarm is tested on a weekly basis, usually on Monday mornings at 0830hrs. All guests, visitors and delegates are informed of when the weekly fire alarm test will be via boards in the reception area and lifts.

Assembly Point

Please leave the building and congregate at the fire assembly point (car park 1 at the front of the building).

In the event of first aid being required, please contact Reception who will call for a first aider to come to your assistance.

Travel and accommodation

Where is the QEII Centre?

Situated directly opposite Westminster Abbey, the venue is a short walk over Westminster Bridge from the Park Plaza Hotel or a short taxi ride from many of London’s leading hotels.

Travelling by train, tube or bus?

The closest tube stations to the QEII are St James’s Park or Westminster (5-minute walk). Victoria and Waterloo main line train stations are within a 15-minute walk.

An Oyster card (a ‘smartcard’ which makes travel in London so much simpler), can be used on the London over ground, tube, buses and DLR and attracts cheaper single fares and daily price capping. Please note: Rail services will be disrupted between Monday 29 January and Monday 5 February. This includes a series of strikes. Please bear this in mind when making Conference travel arrangements. More details can be found at London Travel Watch .

Congestion charging

The Park Plaza Hotel (SE1) and the QEII Centre (SW1P) are both in the congestion charging zone. You can pay online, by telephone, via text message, in person at various outlets and by post. Conference

What time does Conference registration open?

Registration opens at 8.30 on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 February in the Sanctuary Foyer of the QEII Centre. BH&HPA staff will be on hand to assist with the collection of delegate badges.

What time does Conference begin?

Conference 2024 will open at 10.00 in the Fleming with refreshments available in the Britten from 09.00.

Will there be an exhibition?

Yes. Our Exhibition will run concurrently with the business programme on both Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 February in the Britten. BH&HPA Associate Members will be pleased to discuss their products and services with you. The Exhibition will open at 09.00 on both days.

When can I get a programme?

The programme will be available for collection from BH&HPA’s registration desk in the Sanctuary Foyer.

What’s the dress code?

We would like to create a business atmosphere for the Westminster Conference so both business and smart casual dress would be appropriate.

Social media

Members support of BH&HPA Conference through social media is welcomed. For security reasons we would ask that you do not share the location of the event – the QEII Centre - in Tweets, on LinkedIn or in any other social media posts, please.

Mobile phones policy

Please show respect for speakers and other delegates by ensuring that your mobile phone is silenced during conference sessions.

Accessibility and facilities

There is an in-built ramp to the east of the Centre’s main entrance for wheelchair access. All conference rooms can be accessed without the need to use the stairs. There are accessible toilets on the ground floor and the conference floor (3rd floor).

BH&HPA Banquet Wednesday 7 February at the Underglobe

Coaches depart the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge at 18.30 prompt. Please be at the hotel’s main entrance by 18.15 where BH&HPA staff will operate a ticket check prior to boarding.

The event concludes at 01.00 when coaches will return guests to the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge. A shuttle service back to the hotel will also run from 23:00.

The dress code is black tie.
